PT the Aggregator
“In computing, a feed aggregator, also known as a feed reader, news reader, rss reader or simply aggregator, is client software or a Web application which aggregates syndicated web content such as news headlines, blogs, podcasts, and vlogs in a single location for easy viewing.”
We at PT have attempted to turn our web page into an aggregator for parking information. On our home page you will find blogs, news stories (updated daily), current and back issues of PT, links to parking organizations world wide, and ways to search for parking information.
We use two of the most powerful search engines available to seek out parking news in the media and then I select stories and videos that lend themselves to our industry. We cull through three for four hundred and pick 7-10 a day plus a few blog entries, and other tidbits. All these appear first on the web page and then find their way to our facebook page, where the denizens, usually not parking professionals, comment and add news of their own. If you wish to have this available on your smartphone, you can follow me on twitter (@jvhpt) and all stories and blogs are listed there with a hot link to the appropriate web location.
Something must be happening. Our numbers have jumped off the charts – Although we have been “friended” by just under 300 on facebook, we see over 50,000 ‘item views’ a month. Our home page and my blog are honored by over 22,000 discrete visits a month. There is a lot going on.
Our goal originally was to make PT on the web a one stop shop. We link everyone including the parking organizations. We have, Joyce tells me, the most complete calendar of events with hot links to the pages that describe them. AS of today we have 54 parking related events listed, most in this year, but some as far out as 2015. She checks all the organization web sites we have each month and puts their happenings up as soon as we hear about them – If you like, you can go to the calendar page and check to see if your event is there and if not, there is a place where you can let us know.
We offer a number of ways for you to comment. You can certainly write letters to me (the editor). Just send an email with your bon mots to email@example.com. You can also comment on each of my blog posts, or if you are in a whimsical mood, go to our facebook page and join with Wanda, Scarlett, Lorraine, Donna, Tim and hundreds of others who post their sometimes sage and always topical comments. Right guys?
Many thanks to all the participants who make our aggregate pages so successful. If you have anything else you would like us to add, links to put up, or something let me know.
As my oldest son says – Parking Today Rules. We are Parking Information.
