It Always goes back to Star Trek
My previous post about the comment by Scarlett reminded me of the Star Trek Episode starring Frank Gorshin. Now before I go on, let me hasten to add that certainly there are substantial differences between different revenue control machines, much of it internal, some of it external. That having been said, much like mid priced cars from Japan, it is often difficult for the uninitiated to tell the difference.
With that disclaimer in mind consider the episode where Gorshin and Lou Antonio are fighting a battle to the death because of their different appearance. Gorshin and Antonio are half black and half white, literally. there is a line down the center of their faces and half of the face it black and half white. Kirk can’t tell the difference, and Gorshin patiently explains that he is black on the right and white on the left and the his opponent is black on the left and white on the right. You can look up the rest of the story on wikipedia if you care.
Once again, this is not to say that paint color is what separates on revenue control company from another, but there certainly is a perception amongst, as the Brits would say, many of their customers that the differences can be measured in inches ad not miles.
