The CPPA has established the following organizational goals: To build and maintain a statewide organization of parking professionals; to foster mutual support among members and promote and develop parking management as a profession; to inform and support members in dealing with and solving parking problems; to provide an understanding of parking principles and practices through information sharing, education and training; to act as a unifying force in the state of California to monitor, advocate, and promote parking related legislation which will aid and benefit members in the performance of their jobs.
The CPPA has successfully sponsored and provided support or opposition for legislation affecting association members and employs a full-time lobbyist in Sacramento.

Since 1970, property and business owners in cities throughout North America have realized that revitalizing and sustaining vibrant downtowns, city centers and neighborhood districts requires special attention beyond the services city administrations could provide alone. These private-sector owners came together, with funding from the property and business owners, to form nonprofit management associations which deliver key services and activities within the boundaries of their districts. These place management organizations are often called Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), Partnerships and Alliances.
Place management professionals affect significant change in every major metropolitan area in North America in an industry that is growing rapidly around the globe. They develop tools and strategies addressing a broad range of issues impacting how people live, work and play in cities, and manage these growing districts to help create vital, healthy, thriving cities for everyone — from residents to tourists to business owners. They are downtown champions who bring urban centers to life.
The International Downtown Association is the premier organization for urban place professionals who are shaping and activating dynamic city center districts. We represent an industry of more than 2,500 place management organizations, employing 100,000 people throughout North America and growing rapidly around the world. Founded in 1954, IDA is a resource center for ideas and innovative best practices in urban place management. For more information, visit www.downtown.org.
